Ultrasound is high frequency sound waves that are out of the range of human hearing.

Your baby is totally unaware and unaffected by these high frequency sound waves.

Ultrasound does not use radiation or x-rays to create images.

Real time 2D ultrasound has been in safe clinical practice in the UK and the rest of the world for more than 30 years. It’s highly likely you were scanned as a baby.

3D and 4D Ultrasound are no more 'harmful' than 2D ultrasound.

The new ultrasound technology uses identical sound waves as 2D but new advances in transducer and computer technology allow the ultrasound signal to be viewed in 3D or 4D (4D is 3 dimensions with movement).

Our GE Voluson® E8 ultrasound machine is the finest on the market at present, and is meticulously maintained.

However the key to safety in ultrasound is the qualifications and experience of the staff, not so much the equipment used.

All our staff have postgraduate credentials in ultrasound and are active teachers in the field. Some are doubly or even triply accredited.

During your scan the absolute minimum exposure levels of ultrasound will be adhered to.

In addition all staff performing the Nuchal Scan are licensed and audited annually by the Fetal Medicine Foundation.
