Pregnancy Follow Up Scan | Post Partum Scan |
After Giving Birth | Incomplete Miscarriage
Occasionally your doctor may request a Pregnancy Follow Up Scan or Post Partum Scan if you have any bleeding in the weeks after your baby is born or after a miscarriage.
The scan is done:
- To make sure all your placenta has been delivered completely
- If you have miscarried and are still experiencing some bleeding.
Should the reults of the scan reveal retained products of your pregnancy the Sonographer or Consultant may offer two solutions:
- Conservative/Expectant Managament - i.e. let nature take its course
- Have a procedure known as a D&C (Dilation & Curettage)
You may be able to have a D&C performed on the NHS or if you prefer we can recommend a private service.
The scan will normally be performed internally and is not painful.
