Routine Gynaecological Scans This scan is usually one of a series of tests that your GP or Gynaecologist may request after you have consulted them with a gynaecological complaint. We will perform a thorough check of your reproductive organs and prepare a comprehensive report of our findings. It unusual for us to provide any images from this type of examination. The referring doctor is mostly interested in what has been seen and not in diagnosing the complaint from supplied prints. However, we will happily provide a thermal printed image if requested. First we scan you through your tummy (transabdominal) so please arrive with a full bladder so that we can look through the ‘window’ of the bladder at your pelvic area. This would usually be followed by an internal (transvaginal) scan where you will be asked to empty your bladder before the internal scan is done. Internal scans are invaluable in gynaecology because the womb and ovaries are most easily viewed by this method. A transvaginal scan is very straightforward, not uncomfortable and only takes a few minutes. Gynaecological Emergencies In an emergency situation you may come to us with concerns about pelvic pain, lower abdominal pain or unusual bleeding. If you are in extreme pain or losing a great deal of blood we reccommend you attend your nearest A&E. We are able to perfom a detailed examination of your reproductive organs, focussing on the source of your discomfort and possible cause of your bleeding. A comprehensive medical report of our findings will be prepared for you to take away on the day to your GP or Gynaecologist. You do not need a doctor's referral to atttend our clinic for a Gynaecological Scan. Some women find that having the scan performed before visiting their GP or Gynaecologist reduces the number of appointments they must attend in order to resolve their problem. Please inform us if you are bleeding in advance of your appointment so that we can make the necessary clinical arrangements. For bookings information and prices please see our Prices page. |
